Who are the Organizers of this Program?

The Ulan Bator Foundation of Venice California. The Foundation is a non-profit private charity (501C3) registered with the Internal Revenue Service and the State of California. It was registered in 1991. Donations to the UBF are 100% tax deductible. Recognized as a Private Foundation by the IRS, its identification number is 95-4301043. It is registered with the Franchise Tax Board, State of California, and its identification number is 1488212-UB9F. It is also registered with the Attorney General, State of California, as a seller and provider of travel to China and Mongolia. Nowadays, in addition to its travel and English programs, UBF operates medical programs in both Mongolia and in Xinjiang and is commonly referenced abroad as an NGO, or non-governmental charitable organization.

Ulan Bator Foundation is a private charity governed by a Board of Directors. Arnold Springer serves as its President and also as its executive director. It has no membership and there is no paid officer or professional staff.

One of UBF’s missions is educational, to connect the people of Southern California, California, and the United States (emphasis in that order), with the peoples and cultures of Mongolia and Western China, to facilitate people to people exchanges, and to help each other enter into the 21st Century, mostly through thevehicle of Inspiration.

The Department of Education of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Xinjiang authorities approve all applicants, place and host them, and are responsible for all aspects of a teacher’s assignment in Xinjiang. When you arrive in Urumqi you will be given the name and number of a contact person or persons (English speakers) in the Xinjiang government, to whom you can relate directly in case of any problems. Your local hosts will be your first line of assistance in case you have any problems or issues. In case of any difficult problem you can consult UBF by e-mail and we will intervene on your behalf as quickly as we are able to help to solve any issue.

Where will I be Placed if I Take the Job?

Xinjiang Region (Western China). Cities include Urumqui, Hami, Kuitan, Karamay, Aksu, Yili and others. Cities located near the frontiers are not part of the program as this time. You will be placed in:

  • Middle Schools
  • Technical & Professional Schools
  • Universities and Colleges
  • Private Schools of High Learning

Am I Qualified for this Job?

  • A qualified applicant should
  • Be 21-years old or above, with a valid U.S. passport.
  • Be a native English speaker.
  • B.A. or B.S. degrees are certainly a plus but not necessary.
  • Some teaching experience is required.

How Long is the Job Commitment?

  • One term of 5 months is the minimum (one semester in Chinese School)
  • Two terms or 10 months is the optimum (two semesters).
  • The Fall semester usually begins September 1 and ends by mid January. The Spring semester begins in mid February and ends by mid July.

What are my Job Responsibilities?

  • Attending the English class to which you are assigned regularly.
  • Assisting your Chinese teaching partner of English in oral exercises.
  • Participating in extra curricular activities, such as class excursions and English Language Club.
  • Individual teaching opportunities outside of the classroom are possible if your teaching proposal is approved by your school’s administration.
What Benefits will the Xinjiang Government Provide to me?

A free, furnished, private apartment of three to four rooms, including a TV, stove & refrigerator in the kitchen, and private bathroom, All water, gas, and electric utilities (except phone) will be paid by the local authorities.

A monthly stipend which is the equivalent of $300 USD. You will be paid in Chinese currency, with the beginning stipend set at 2,400 Chinese Yuan per month. The monthly salary for native teachers in Xinjiang ranges between 1,000 and 2,000 Chinese yuan per month. You will be receiving very high pay as a foreign expert.

If you agree to teach two consecutive semesters, one half of the round trip ticket (Los Angeles-Urumqi-Los Angeles) may be negotiated upon signing your agreement.

Emergency medical care and simple illnesses like severe flu, toothache, fever or gastrointestinal disorders etc. will be treated locally and paid for by the school where you teach.

The school will invite/sponsor a relative or friend of yours who wishes to visit or stay with you during your teaching period. However, you must inform the local public security department in advance of your intentions.

What is not usually included in this Benefit Package?

  • Round trip airfare, about $700 -LAX - Beijing — LAX.
  • Medical Insurance other than mentioned above.
