The newest (Third) Edition of America's Top Doctors (2003) which is designed
"...to assist consumers in making the best healthcare choices," features 33
physicians who are members of the medical staff at Children's Hospital Los
Angeles. Twenty five were listed in 1991 and 35 were listed in 2002
The basis for selection was peer nomination, beginning with a survey of more
than 250,000 physicians, and continuing with subsequent telephone and online
surveys; other surveys were conducted with (a) directors of graduate
medical programs; (b) directors of clinical services and member hospitals of
the Council of Teaching Hospitals; (c) board members of various medical
specialty academies, associations and societies and; (d) deans and chairs of
departments at medical schools. There were more than 25,000 physicians
nominated in the process.
According to American's Top Doctors, Children's Hospital Los Angeles was one
of "...a select group of hospitals invited to participate in the Hospital
Information Program, and was singled out for the excellence of its: Heart
Institute; Center for Endocrinology; Center for Diabetes and Metabolism;
Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases; and Children's Orthopaedic
Center."
